myBackup

Description

myBackup is a limited desktop backup service provided to Northeastern University Faculty and Staff for their NU owned computers that are connected to our network. Each user has 5GB of space allotted to backup files. Users can select (with the exception of certain system files) which files to backup to a set of secure servers hosted on campus and maintained by Information Services. Files can later be restored if something happens to the computer.

Functionality/Benefits

myBackup is a locally installed application that provides users secure storage of backed up files. Since this is a local installation, the user is able to backup files on an as needed basis depending on their schedule. Files must be located on an NU-owned machine which is a member of the NUnet domain, while also running Windows XP (service pack 2).

Service is available 24 x 7 x 365, except during planned maintenance and upgrades.

Support

Support is provided by Information Services during normal University business hours of 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. To obtain assistance with this service, please contact the Service Desk at 617-373-4357.

Currently, there is no charge for this service.

Request for Service

This service option is one of the programs listed within Add/Remove Programs on all NU owned PCs.

How to Install myBackup:
  • Click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Select Add New Programs on the left side of the screen. Under Add Programs from your Network, click the Add button next to myBackup
