Learning Management System/Blackboard

Description

The Learning Management System (LMS) used by Northeastern University is Blackboard. It is a web-based application that integrates online course materials with online communication tools. There are two platforms to serve the NU community. The primary platform is Enterprise Blackboard, which is supported by the Information Services Service Desk. College of Professional Studies (CPS) students have their own platform called CPS Blackboard, which is maintained and supported separately by CPS.

Functionality/Benefits

This service makes it very easy for an instructor to set up a course site and post material to it. Most instructors prefer using Blackboard to creating and maintaining their own website or online course material. This service allows:

  • Faculty to post and students to view/download class materials including class announcements, syllabi, grades, links, documents, course materials
  • Student and Faculty communication through discussion boards, e-mail, and virtual classrooms, chats, white boarding, messaging, wikis, blogs
  • Administration and grading of online course assignments, papers, quizzes, and exams
  • Display and download of multimedia and podcasts
  • Provides integration with the myFiles service, which allows you to store your files on the web so they can be accessed remotely


  • Blackboard uses myNEU Portal account credentials and is accessible via the portal here.

    Hours of Availability

    Service is available 24 x 7 x 365, except during planned maintenance and upgrades.

    Support

    Enterprise Blackboard: Support is provided by Information Services during Service Desk hours of 7:00am - 12midnight Monday - Saturday, except during holidays and intersession. To obtain assistance with this service, please contact the Service Desk at 617-373-4357.

    CPS Blackboard: Technical support for CPS Blackboard is available 24 x 7 x 365 by calling 866-847-1573. Additionally, the CPS Blackboard support portal contains answers to common questions, or you may email CPSBlackboard@neu.edu for help.
