E-mail and Calendaring

Description

The E-mail and Calendaring service provides e-mail, calendaring and personal information management features such as contacts and tasks. Faculty/Staff e-mail is accessible via Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange clients, Web-mail, IMAP and POP3. Mobile access is available to these services via the associated Blackberry Enterprise Server service. Student e-mail and associated services (know as G-Apps) are accessible via the myNEU Portal and are powered by Google. Information Services provides authenticated e-mail gateway services for unmanaged client e-mail access, and universal anti-spam and anti-virus services.

Functionality/Benefits

Information Services is in the process of migrating our Faculty/Staff and sponsored account holders to Microsoft Exchange. All faculty and staff email accounts will be transitioned to Exchange by Dec 2009.

Microsoft Exchange provides the following features:
  • E-mail, Calendaring, Tasks, SharePoint integration
  • Web based access to your email - Outlook Web Access (OWA)
  • IMAP support
  • iPhone and Blackberry device support
  • Exchange ActiveSync for Windows Mobile devices
  • Calendar Access
  • 2 GB of storage
  • Ability to have e-mail account forwarded
  • Support for an e-mail aliases

    Information Services is in the process of migrating our student account holders to services hosted by Google Inc. All student accounts will be transitioned to this service by Oct 2009.

    The Student e-mail & calendar system, branded "G-apps at NEU", provides the following features:
  • E-mail and Calendar Access
  • Tools for Documents and Spreadsheets on line and Mobile Services
  • Available anywhere via the myNEU portal
  • Over 7GB of storage
  • Support for e-mail forwarding
  • IMAP/POP support

    Hours of Availability

    Service is available 24 x 7 x 365, except during planned maintenance and upgrades.

    Support

    Support is provided by Information Services during Service Desk hours of 7:00am - 12midnight Monday - Saturday, except during holidays and intersession. To obtain assistance with this service, please contact the Service Desk at 617-373-4357.

    Currently, there is no charge for this service.

    Request for Service

    All Faculty and Staff are provided an e-mail account automatically when hired. Sponsored accounts can be obtained via the sponsored account process. The Sponsored Account form can be found on the Information Services web site here.

    Student services exist for Undergraduate students upon acceptance to Northeastern and the service remains upon becoming a full time Undergraduate student. Graduate, School of Law, College of Professional Studies, and Continuing Education students receive accounts upon becoming an active student. Services for all students remain until the one year anniversary of completion of requirements or withdrawal.
