Database Hosting
Description
The Database Hosting service provides hosting, consulting and administration of Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases for Faculty, Staff, departments, colleges and administrative units. Database administration services include maintenance, updates, security, reporting and backups of the databases, as well as general consultation on database/application issues.
Functionality/Benefits
Included in the service of database hosting, Information Services will:
Create, configure, monitor, tune, and drop database instances and databases
- Stop/start instances and databases
- Perform database memory monitoring, analysis, and planning
- Perform database space monitoring, analysis, and planning
- Perform database performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting Coordinate application of database upgrades, updates, and patches on both the server and the client
Perform backup and recovery operations and maintain transaction logs
Maintain database security
- Process System Access Requests and C/S Access Requests
- Create database logins and roles (Oracle, SQL Server)
- Create and distribute (in conjunction with IS Security) database passwords
- Issue appropriate grants and revokes Create, maintain, and drop database objects
- Enforce naming/documentation standards
- Create/alter/drop tables, views, indexes, etc.
- Place tables in appropriate table spaces
- Place tables in appropriate schemas Support data movement activities (load, export/import, DTS/SSIS)

- Perform database space monitoring, analysis, and planning
- Perform database performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
- Process System Access Requests and C/S Access Requests
