Northeastern On Demand

NU Information Services' Award-winning concept in mobile delivery

Northeastern On Demand was prompted by a number of converging trends in higher education. The first is that our students, the so-called "millennials " or "echo boomers" – the children of the baby boomers, have a completely new and different view of the use and ubiquity of technology in every aspect of their lives. The second is that the role of technology, particularly personal or "desktop" technology, in education and, more importantly, the careers we're preparing our students for, continues to accelerate. The third is the rapid expectation (and evolution) of digital devices (beyond laptops) as legitimate platforms for delivery of content in support of individual work and to enable transactions. The last trend I will mention is the mobility of the community we serve whether students on Co-op, faculty members collaborating for research and scholarship across universities and corporations, or administrators scouring the globe for students.

Northeastern On Demand, while an umbrella term for a number of technology and support capabilities is, in fact, a strategy for delivering services, customized to the individual, any time, anywhere, and on any device available. Accordingly, "on demand" delivery is ever evolving as requirements, available technologies, and institutional priorities change. Northeastern On Demand will never be "done "because our communities´ and society´s need for technological ubiquity is now perpetual, and some might even say, insatiable.

We hope the information presented here assists the reader in addressing the trends listed above for their communities. If we can be of assistance, or your have comments or suggestions to share, please contact us at bobweir@neu.edu.
