Microsoft Office 2007 Information
Overview
Office 2007 is the most recent version of Office created by Microsoft. It contains all of the same applications as previous versions of office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook & Publisher).
It is possible to upgrade to Office 2007 from Office XP, but before doing so you must make sure that your current computer meets the NU minimum system requirements. There are also known compatibility issues between older versions of Office and Office 2007. Please read the Known Compatibility Issues section of this document for more information.
Some new features of Office 2007 include newer templates to help create more professional documents and presentations. For a screenshot of Word 2007, click here.

Known Compatibility Issues
The newest version of Microsoft Office, Office 2007, is not automatically compatible with earlier versions of MS Office, including MS Office for Apple computers. This means that many people will not be able to open documents created in Office 2007.
About the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Windows
To help mitigate this inconvenience, Information Services is installing a Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 on all Northeastern centrally-managed Windows PCs. This compatibility pack will allow you to open, edit and save documents created with the Office 2007 file format that are sent to you, regardless of the version of MS Office that is on your centrally-managed PC.
All general access labs have the compatibility pack installed. Faculty and staff machines may need to be re-started to initiate the installation. There will be nothing else you need to do after the compatibility pack is installed. The compatibility pack will start automatically when you open an Office 2007 document.
How to get the Compatibility Pack for your Home Computer
Students, faculty and staff who are using an older version of Microsoft Office for at home, can visit Microsoft's download site and install the compatibility pack on personally-owned Windows machines. The Office Compatibility Pack is available for download here.
How Office 2007 users can make their files accessible to people using older versions of Office
If you are using Office 2007 and you share files with people who have not upgraded yet, make sure to save your files in an older version of Office. To change the default file format in Word 2007 to the .doc (previous) format, click the Office Button >Word options, > Save > Save files in this format: Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)
